About Dr. Sara Sprout Vanstraten

pelvic floor therapy in Okinawa, Japan

Since 2002, I have worked in healthcare to help my community. After 13 years as a dental hygienist in Florida, I decided to further my influence by earning a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) at the University of South Florida. I want to educate others on reducing pain, improving their abilities, and guiding them to healthier, happier lives. I started my studies with a Bachelor's in Exercise Science at Florida State University, where I also earned a Bachelor's in Psychology. This combination helps me connect better with my patients and understand mental health, improving my care approach. My psychology background supports my physical therapy work, allowing me to address both the physical and emotional aspects of healing.

After graduating from physical therapy school in 2018, I moved to San Diego, CA, where I focused my practice on physical therapy, including pelvic floor rehabilitation. Since living in San Diego, I have completed all courses in the Pelvic Floor series offered by Herman & Wallace. Additionally, I have taken the Mobilization of Myofascial Layer course from the same institution and earned certification in pregnancy and postpartum corrective exercise. This comprehensive education has equipped me with the skills and confidence to effectively treat underserved populations dealing with pelvic pain conditions, bladder & bowel dysfunction, and core or pelvic issues. Furthermore, I am trained to address conditions such as vertigo, concussion, and migraines, allowing me to provide a holistic approach to patient care in my practice.

My husband and I recently relocated to Kansas City after being stationed in Okinawa, Japan, where I managed my own pelvic floor physical therapy clinic. During my time in Okinawa, I had the privilege of treating active military folks and their spouses who often felt disadvantaged, providing them with the support and care they needed. Now, I am excited to offer my services in a home-based setting, allowing me to continue helping patients in a comfortable and personalized environment. When Iā€™m not working with patients and friends, I enjoy staying active through running and hiking to waterfalls. Snorkeling is another passion of mine, and I love searching for new places to explore. Additionally, I cherish the moments spent dancing with my remarkably talented husband, whether at local events or hidden gems in our community.
